In The Gulf: Humberto

There was much excitement yesterday when a simple tropical depression suddenly became stronger and set it's sights on Galveston. The wind and rain really picked up during the late evening hours, but the storm passed on by and made landfall farther up the coast.
I had loaded up on snacks and beer thinking we would have the day off today to watch the rain, but all is well and we had to get up and go to work.....phooey.

Work Related: Open House

I hate open house.

It's funny when you watch those house flipper shows on HGTV (you know you do) they always have about a zillion people show up for the open house and almost always they sell it that day.

My open houses usually go two ways.
Seller wants an open house like they have on TV

1.Nobody shows up.
or
2.Only nosey neighbors show up
Seller is mad because the house didn't sell at open house like it does on TV

Now yesterday I held one of my listings open at the request of my client.

I brought the cookies and the drinks and of course some contracts and expecting the worst, set up my computer to play on POGO.

Well guess what?

People came! All buyers!

I didn't write a contract BUT not only did I get very important feedback on the property (good and bad) I also picked up 3 new clients who have not yet chosen a realtor to work with and 2 of those have loans set up already.

I love open house!

Busy weekend for us.
John has been working to finish up a big project and I have been working with out of town clients. The BabyCats got fixed on Friday and are doing fine.
Today, we all rest.

Project Babycats Update

The babycats are quickly becoming big cats!

Tomorrow they go to the adoption group to be

tested for disease, evaluated for adoption,

and if accepted into the program, fixed for free.

UPDATE:

I loaded them up around 6:30am and headed for Houston.

About half way I checked my voicemail and there was one from late last night from the adoption group changing the appt to Sept 12th. I've already been on a waiting list for 3 weeks...sigh.
So, I turned around and went down to the clinic where I had taken their Momma and they could not take them today, but let me make an appointment for Friday.
I just don't want to wait two more weeks.

Hopefully the group will still let us take them to the adoption events.

Work Related: Just Busy

I'm around....just trying to get something sold by the end of the month.
I'm getting a little beat up out there right now.
Such is the world of sales I suppose.

Shopping: Texas Tax Free Weekend

Texans are once again enjoying shopping for back to school during the annual Tax Free Shopping Holiday.

Many stores are having sales and staying open late.

It's a win win for customers and retailers.

I'm so blonde: and forgetful too

Today was the last day of my workshop.
Acutally it was more like the last 2 hours because it was clear the speaker was just there to sell us stuff today and having no money for stuff I skipped out after the morning break.
But this is not about that.

I was starving when I came in and put a bowl of soup in the microwave so I could eat fast.
Then I proceeded to answer some emails and take care of a couple of things while it heated up.

About 3 pm I realized I was starving.
How could I be so hungry when I had just eaten a whole can of soup 2 hours ago, I thought?

Then I see the bowl still in the microwave.
I pushed the buttons once again, but this time I kept a spoon in my hand.
Sometimes you just need to stay on task.

In Houston: TS Erin

Today was not a good day to be in Houston!
I have class this week.
I was tempted not to drive in with a tropical storm raging, but the Weather Channel was saying Corpus would be getting the worst of it.
This class cost 300 bucks and felt I could tough out a little rain.

Anyway, the workshop lasted until 12:30. It was held at a hotel out at the airport and when I left, the parking lot was flooded halfway up my tires.
SO...
I waded out to my car.
I Hate wet shoes and socks...YUCK!

Then..
The cars were lined up and the feeder road was pretty deep leaving the parking lot.
Some cars were making it and some were turning around.
I stopped and waited it out for about an hour.
I just got this car paid off and have no interest in drowning it now.

Anyway...
After awhile I followed some cars around in a big circle and made it back up to the freeway and finally home.
finally!

Eye on the Gulf

TS Erin is working her way onto the Texas coast. It looks like our neighbors down in Corpus Christi will be getting most of the weather but it is raining pretty hard here this morning as well.

National Clean Out the Kitchen Cabinets Day

.....the refrigerator.
I got everything moved from downstairs to up.
Of course both fridges had to be washed out...yuck.
but...
Now both are clean and free of left overs and stuff that we won't eat but we put it in the fridge anyways.
AND I can have beer in two places.
A sense of accomplishment is always nice.

Project BabyCats Update

The kittens are now on a waiting list for a Houston adoption program.

They will be checked out and fixed

on the 29th, then up for adoption.

I will have to take them to Pet Smart
every Saturday until they are adopted.

I'm hoping that will not be too many Saturdays
because that sure is a lot of good-byes.

If anyone out there wants a babycat,
please speak up before the 29th because
then adoption fees will apply!

As you can clearly see, they are not any trouble

Just Busy

I'm around ---just busy.

I took a couple of listings and did a lot of weekend showings.
Hopefully my business will be back on track soon.

I am trying to get the kittens into a foster program.
They are getting so big and worry if I continue trying to find homes on my own they will be out of that cute kitten stage and harder to adopt.

Rafe is doing a little better on his new meds and we are finished with his fluids now.
We will be glad when he is back to his old cuddly self, I miss those Meezer kisses.

After many phone calls I got someone to fix our fridge and he is coming out tomorrow.
That will be nice and the warranty is picking it all up...yeah.

Regular blogging will resume when I get caught up.

Work Related: Assistants

Some brokers are so busy they hire assistants to help agents in making the day to day contacts that must be made. I am also busy and make my own calls but this is not about that.

Anyway.
I have a client thinking of bidding on a property and the listing notes provides a website where more information, specific forms and offer instructions should be obtained before presenting an offer to the selling party.
I look all over this site and can not find it.
So I send a quick email, could I get the direct link to this file?

An assistant calls the next day (yup the next day) and cheerfully informs me that I can download these files off the brokers website and gives me the same URL I have been searching.
I explain to her that I have been to the site, but can't seem to locate it there....the reason for the email.

she says:
OH....Are you new to using the computer?

Excuse me?

Well after a short silence I asked again can she just email me the direct link and guess what she could not find the files on that website either.

and,Yes.
I resisted the urge to ask if she was new to being an assistant.

Our Anniversary

Yesterday was our 14th wedding anniversary and we almost forgot!
I don't know if that's good or bad, but we went out for Chinese and those Mai Tais were good.
Very good.

So it is around 2am and I hear a female voice calling out to me in my peaceful sleep.

The battery is low, the battery is low

John is in the bathroom and annoyed I yell at him
"shut that thing off already or put a battery in it"
What thing he replies... He didn't hear anything talking.

"That thing!"I say, can't you hear that thing talking?

Well finally he does hear it and I am glad I am not crazy but heck if we could figure out what in our house talks that has low batteries.

After ruling out the cameras, phones, alarm clocks and even the sleep apnea machine, the talking thing gives up her warnings and we went back to sleep.

The next day John looks up at the smoke alarm..maybe?
I pushed the test button and guess what??
The battery is low!
How was I supposed to know the damn thing can talk?

Now where did I put those batteries??

My Birthday and The Game

Thanks everyone for your birthday greetings. I spent most of the weekend pouting about pushing *gasp* 50.
Gosh it hurts just typing it.

The Astros game was fun, even if we lost.
The people 2 rows in front were so drunk they could not function and that provided some entertainment until the jerks bought out the beer vendor of his 7 dollar Bud Lights before he could get to me..argh!

It was Christmas in July and they gave aways some Astros Santa Hats, one of which has already been shredded by one or more of our resident Kitten Clauses......hohoNo bad kitty.
I can't leave anything out.

They photoshopped the players into Santa on the Jumbo Tron as they came up to bat and that was pretty cute.
They did the Padre players like Rudolph with red noses and that was a little rude-- but funny.

There were supposed to be fireworks and I was looking forward to that but it was cancelled due to the rain.
At least games can not be rained out here.
We play baseball inside in Houston.

All in all it was a good day...for a birthday I mean.

EveryKitty has been to the vet this week!

Rafe's condition has worsened.
He has an infection and the lesions are still forming.
We are treating him at home with antibiotics and fluids.
He seems a little better this morning.

Every OTHER kitty went in to get treated for earmites...yuck.
Everycat got weighed and checked over.

RicoLoco weighed 12 and a half pounds,

RoadTrip: Last Day

We got up early for the drive home.
We didn't think we could make it all the way but pushed hard and
got home around 8pm.

It was nice to sit on the porch with a beer
and be surrounded by kitty cats.

Now I have to buckle down and sell some homes!

Road Trip: Day Nine

No pictures today just driving.
We got pretty tired and trying to avoid the higher
prices went off road to the Fort Payne Inn.
It looked kind of old, but the price was good so got the room.

Well, they say you get what you pay for...not true
this place was really gross.
I should have gone right back in and
demanded a refund but we just did not feel
like movin' on down the road and figured
we could handle it for a few hours sleep.

I went looking for a pen and paper and
wouldn't you know if found an old
piece of pizza in a drawer....YUCK!

From now on we will remember Ft Payne as Ft Pain,
or maybe Ft PigSty..ha.

I know these girls will be a LOT bigger next time we see them.

We drove pretty hard, but got really tired around 5pm and started

charge us double the price.

We ended up in Mt Jackson, VA

around for a place to eat.
