Hurricane Season: 2 weeks and counting

Are you ready?

  • 60% of people polled have NO family disaster plan
  • 68% have NO hurricane survival kit
  • 83% have taken NO steps to make their houses stronger
  • 13% would NOT evacuate even if ordered to leave

  • Us?
We will board up the windows, throw the cats in the car and run.
    Afterall...
    We never unpacked from Rita.

The Apprentice: What others have to say

Well, I taped last night so I could watch Grey's Anatomy and somehow managed to only get the last half of the show. Apparently it is no longer replayed at MSNBC, at least I can not find it....sigh.

I did get to see Tammy's melt down in the boardroom and Allie get busted by Ivanka and Bill for rolling her eyes...something that has annoyed me all season......ha.

Here's what others had to say this week, enjoy.

Nonny say's Allie is like the girl you hated in High School, Yeah....I remember her!
Ann Althouse tells her readers that the proper term is "Eye Raising"....I like that!
Mike's Summary will be delayed, he told his readers to read mine....my bad.
Joe Realty is hard on the girls
The Apprentice on our TV found episode 12 "hard to watch"....at least they got to see it!
    and
The Orthodox Apprentice is always a good read.

    On the Canal: Shark!

Look what one of our neighbors caught in the canal!

They posted this picture on our local message board.

I wonder what the bait was?
    I want one too!

The Apprentice: My Take on Who's Left

We are down to five candidates on NBC's The Apprentice.

These are just MY opinions, feel free to leave your own in the comments

Allie: I think it was Tammy that said Allie is like a bulldog. True she is aggressive, but sometimes overly emotional and that may be her downfall in these final tasks.

Roxanne: Roxanne on the other hand seems rather UN-emotional.
I think she will need to demonstrate more passion in the coming weeks to pull ahead.

    Tammy
: Tammy is the quiet one, the peacemaker.
I like her, but wonder if she is strong enough to pull off a win.

    Sean
: Sean seems like a strong candidate, but I can't help but wonder why he wants this job.
I think he would be happier riding off with Tammy into the sunset.

Lee: What can you see about Lee?
He's young and smart and wants to work for Donald Trump.
Unless he makes a major mistake, I think he'll have the job.

    The Apprentice: week 11

It's the men against the women now that we are down to 6 candidates.

The task is to co-ordinate with OutBack Steakhouse and throw a huge tail gate party at Rutger's homecoming football game.

The guys, led once again by Lee have big ideas and appeared to have thrown a successful bash.
They forgot one critical point---this is a selling task.

Roxanne is PM for Synergy, and understanding the way to a win has nothing to do with cheerleaders, the trio sell their way to a big win.

In the boardroom, there is no need to throw anyone under the bus.
Trump is clearly disappointed in Michael's performance and without a lot of discussion says,
    Michael, you're fired.

    Don't You Hate it When.....

    your SO, uses your car?
I mean, I get that he is WAY bigger than me and has to adjust the seat.
    But....
Why does he have to move the steering wheel, and worst of all change the station.
I mean I fix the seat, but am already on I45N before I realize the wheel is wierd and the station is music and not TalkRadio.
    I mean, really.

I saw these at Sam's Club today, but didn't buy one.

Shopping: Shorts in the Work Place?

I know the fashion magazines and retailors are telling us we can do this for spring and summer, but I can not bring myself to meet with a client wearing shorts.

Not that the look isn't cute, it just doesn't seem appropriate for work.

    (photo from Macys.com)

    Don't You Hate it When.....

You throw something away because you didn't need it anymore and then later you realize you do need it after all but that realization only comes AFTER you have dumped the coffee grounds on top it.

    All In a Day's Work

I was showing a vacant house and the clients were running a little late so I went on in to open everything up, you know turn on lights and stuff.

Well, apparently the sellers had just exterminated because there were dead bugs everywhere...eww.

I didn't want my clients to be grossed out so I got some napkins out of my car and started picking up the the bugs.

Now I don't like bugs at all alive or dead but I get them all and of course, there are no trash cans in an empty house and CRAP... what do I do with these bug filled papers now??

I stuck them in a drawer and hoped these people are not the kind that open every single thing in a house, but of course ...they are.

So, the whole time they are inspecting the kitchen I am standing in front of that drawer so they do not feel tempted to open it, but in case they do I prepare myself to act properly shocked.

Now at some point SOMEone will open that bug filled icky drawer, and some poor realtor WILL be properly shocked, but it won't be me...at least I hope not.

    I'm so blonde

I thought Mother's Day is this weekend and was in a panic to get cards in the mail this morning.
    Then...
I am on the way to a showing and I hear on the radio that Mother's Day is not until the 14th.
    So...
The cards are too early and I am very annoyed with myself
    But...
When I got home, the mail lady was just making it around the corner.
    So...
I cut her off to get into the driveway and snatch the cards out of the box just in the nick of time.
    Now..
watch me forget to mail them next week....just watch....ha.

    The Apprentice: Week 10

There was lots of yelling in the both the suite and boardroom this week and Trump was especially creepy.

The Teams were brought in and told each would host an open house for a Hair Cuttery franchise.
Trump invited Charmaine to touch his own hair and report if it is real.
She said yes, it is but later Tammy asked why she didn't check the back....Ha.

Both teams faced similar challenges with getting the stores stocked, marketing ordered, and ready to go. Candidates seem to be pairing up now and forming alliances within the teams.
Sean is goofy about Tammy, this should be fun.

Tammy and Synergy win the task and are treated to a day with the legendary Burt Bacharach. how cool is that?

Charmaine and Gold Rush prepare for the worst with Lee stirring the pot a little.
In the boardroom, Trump makes a joke to Tarek about not getting to date Charmaine. Michael says Charmaine wants everyone to "love each other" and Trump makes another joke about that. Like I said, creepy.

After much yelling, The Donald started telling Charmaine how attractive she is, then fires her. After that he proceeded to attack Tarek and fired him as well.
Tarek, I am not too crazy about but... Trump saying several times during the season that maybe "Mensa made a mistake" is awfully harsh in my opinion.

It looks like next week we will have girls against boys and in the promo Trump says something about checking out the cheerleaders.
    Yeah, I know.

Teeth marks and lots of them.
    Bad Kitty!

    Shopping: Bubble Skirts

I think these are so ugly, but I'm seeing them everywhere.

It's in basic black at Nordstrom at $154.00
Macy's has a below the knee style that is only $32.00
South Moon Under, says these skirts look and feel great
This one is TOO damn short!
Big girls should NOT wear gingham, ever.
Urban Outfitters did one in sweatshirt knit.....Yuck!
    and
The Big O has them at $29.99 (pictured here)

My advice is if you like them not to spend too much because I'll bet you that $154.00 that we won't even see them after this spring.
    Well, maybe on Ebay.

    1. What's your favorite food?

    Rafe:
The wet kind with the gravy, it there is not gravy, then it is the wrong kind
    Rhett:
    treats, treats and treats

    2. What is your favorite toy?

Rafe: Toys are for babycats, but I have been known to swat at a jingle ball once in awhile
Rhett: small toys that I can carry around easily are my favorite and Rafe lied he plays with pipe cleaners, I saw him playing.

    3. What is your best trick?

    Rafe: Yeah, right
Rhett: I play fetch, and I jump up to catch my toys

    4. What is your favorite human trick?

    Rafe:
I beg for human food until they give in then do not eat any
Rhett: I play hide and they play seek.

    5. What human rule do you break often?

    Rafe:
I can defeat the babycat locks on the cabinet and let Rhett in to play with the TP
    Rhett:
I like to sit on the eating table, that is a dumb rule anyways

    6. What do you wish your human knew about you?

    Rafe:
I wish I could tell her why anyone would leave such a wonderful kitty at the shelter
    Rhett:
I wish I could tell her why I am not a lap cat, she always wants to hold me and I am just too busy for that

    7. What are you glad your human does NOT know about you?

    Rafe:
Sometimes I do stuff that Rhett gets the blame for
    Rhett:
    You do?

The Apprentice: The Early Birds Get the Win

This week The Apprentice candidates are sent out to Ellis Island.

The Mission: To create and sell a limited edition booklet benefiting the Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island Foundation.

Gold Rush, led by watched by Lee hop out of bed early and leave the still snoozing Allie and Synergy in the dust generating a win for the first time in 4 weeks.
The team is rewarded with a day of playing golf with Trump and Pro Vijay Singh.
Charmaine complains that Lee got the win.
Clearly this girl is never happy unless she is unhappy.

Team Synergy, not willing to blame themselves, focus on Andrea.
The girls quickly form a plan that includes --
    "blood will be f_ing everywhere".
    Very nice, Allie.
Sean, the only man on the team, can not defend his friend and Trump sensing dislike among the group for the self proclaimed
    >insert anything here< specialist
    says: Andrea you're fired.

Now, Andrea is not my favorite but truly it was Allie that deserved to be fired this round for missing the boat----literally and figuratively.

Deal Or No Deal is a re-run tonight and the Miss USA contestants (Friday is the pagent) are taking the place of the usual models.

The current Miss USA, Chelsea Cooley made an appearance on that stupid Celebrity Cooking show. I missed the final, but it appears she won.

So...did I just refer to these lovely ladies owned by Donald Trump himself as "products"??

    Well, yes I did.

On The Island: Texas Beach Party

Galveston Island is battening down the hatches in preparation for the annoying annual Texas Beach Party also known as KAPPA Weekend.

Thousands of mostly African American young people will swarm the Seawall in an endless parade of barely dressed girls, jacked up cars and boys with video cameras.

Even more annoying than the loud beat of thousands of overblown speakers blasting HipHop all over the Island, is the city blocking off nearly every street with the exception of the major arteries.

Many businesses close because workers can not travel around the Island to get to work.

Even 7 miles away our little neighborhood will be barracaded (photo) due to the traffic backing up this far in previous years.

Every year the city tries to lure the party out to East Beach.
The turnout is usually light out there, the main venue clearly being Seawall Blvd.
After the party there is a big expensive mess to clean up, but the city does a good job of putting things back together quickly. Summer has arrived.

Our policy expires in August, right in the middle of hurricane season.

Update: The rock star that I never heard of won tonight and I think Alan Thicke does not realize that even if anyone even cared what he has to say, he can not be heard over the way too loud studio audience.

    Celebrity Cook Off

Ok, I don't know if I can watch this all week, but it took the place of The Apprentice last night so gave it a try. It's not the Iron Chef, but it was somewhat amusing.

Alan Thicke is the host, and there was an amusing segway from Deal or No Deal to start it all off.

The blondes were wearing skimpy little sundresses and high heels, no surprise one of them got burned, I was just surprised it was her hand not her boob. They both kept flipping the hair and even John said, get a ponytail holder already.

The football player was my favorite, and though he didn't win at least he did not take himself too seriously.

The judges, one of whom was dressed in clown gear, gobbled off the same plate--yuck-- and I kept waiting to see if one of them had found a blonde hair in the food.

There is a blog with one entry, and each night the show is giving away a new kitchen.

Tonight Patti LaBelle is competing and I may watch again because I'll bet that gal can cook.

    Tagged: 6 weird things

My friend Melli Tagged me to come up with 6 weird things about myself.

    So here it goes

    1. If something strikes me funny, I laugh. Often, it is not appropriate, ie a funeral.
I have no control over this and have gotten myself in big trouble for this habit since, well since about 1st grade to present. Oh well.....lol.

    2. I am a major list maker and even if I don't do ANYTHING on that list on that day, I STILL have a sense of accomplishment just for making the damn thing.
    weird, huh?

    3. I hate cooking, but have been following the weekly recipes at allrecipes.com and try to make something from that site at least twice a week. Now some of it has been pretty gross, but I try
and some of it has been pretty good too.

4 .Sometimes, I have trouble making even the simplest decisions and am apt to flip a coin to make one even if I am driving in the car.

    5. I am really picky about what to wear for the day, I get dressed about 3 times...Not kidding.

    6. I am totally paranoid about being late for ANYthing. I tend to be at least a half an hour early for appointments, if I arrive less than 30 minutes prior, I "feel" late .
